Curriculum and Activities

This program establishes an interactive classroom climate that enables and encourages the child in this fast developing stage as he/she moves into parallel play, increases verbal communication abilities and works toward “potty training” and self care tasks.

Encouraged movement activities include jumping, running, throwing, catching and kicking a ball, dancing and walking on tiptoes.

Communication is emphasized through the use of songs and fingerplays, listening to stories and exposure to books, dramatic play, and modeling of appropriate language throughout the day.

Music is used daily in teaching all aspects of the curriculum.

Paint, glue and playdough are used for natural art experiences along with drawing and scribbling for pleasure and creativity.

Beginning math concepts are introduced through simple counting in fingerplays and songs.  Children begin to classify objects using blocks, rings, pegs and peg boards and to match objects during sand and water play.

Hands-on experiences with plants, animals, nature and simple experiments encourage curiosity and wonder about the natural world.

Learning about good health is emphasized during snack times with nutritious snacks which do not include added sugars, salts, or dyes.

Classroom skills are introduced with attention to courtesy and good manners, listening and learning to follow directions, and cooperating within a group for play and learning.  Sharing time affords more practice with communication and verbalization skills on an individual level.
